The National Student Financial Aid System (NSFAS) convened all students who have not yet requested financial assistance 2019 to submit their applications online before the closing date.
Students have less than 30 days to submit their 2019 funding applications. Applications will be officially closed on November 30, 2018.
More than 190 000 requests received
NSFAS Administrator Randall Carolissen said since the application cycle was opened, the scheme received 191,887 requests. This exceeds twice the number of applications in October 2017, when only 90,000 applications were received.
"On average, NSFAS received 3 500 applications per day. Numbers can be attributed to the online application system that allows candidates to complete the application within five minutes. Our partners throughout the country have also improved our reach." Carolissen.
The applications opened on September 1, 2018, to students who wish to contribute their studies in 2019 on a course approved in any public university or Technical School and Vocational Training (TVET) in South Africa.
It encourages students to submit requests online or visit the closest centers of the National Agency for Youth Development (NYDA) before the closing date.
At the beginning of the campaign, NSFAS partnered with NYDA to use its subsidiaries in all nine provinces to support online applications and receive and capture manual applications in the online system.
Carolissen said more than 30,000 students were assisted by branches of NYDA since the opening of applications.
There is no extended window period
"NSFAS has informed all Vice Presidents and Directors of TVET that the closing date for applications is November 30, 2019 and that no extension will be granted.
"Institutions were also informed that students financed by the NSFAS, with a confirmed stock offer, should not pay a registration fee when they are presented for registration in January 2019," said Carolissen.
Carolissen emphasized that there will not be an extended window period for 2019 applications, therefore "NSFAS will not accept any late application after the deadline of November 30, 2018."
An important message for the candidates:
Do not change the mobile phone number or the email address used for the application. These will be used by NSFAS to communicate the result of your application.
Applicants who wish to obtain information about their request status or the resolution of financing decisions can do so by calling the NSFAS 0860 007 327 free phone number.
NSFAS will only finance candidates who have been accepted in a course approved at a university or in the university of TVET.
Students who are funded by NSFAS for the first time are required to sign the NSFAS stock exchange form.
