Cape Town – WP Rugby announced on Thursday that an independent investigation did not find forms of discrimination or unfair labor practices related to the claims of the assistant coach of Stormers Paul Remover.
The union said it had received the complete final report from the legal firm Bowmans that did not give negative or adverse results against any officers, coaches or members of the WP Rugby team.
The investigation followed after Treu had tested a Stormers season review meeting earlier this year. As reported, "he had enough to be treated badly" and "he would not take it anymore."
WP Rugby Group CEO Paul Zacks On Thursday he indicated that the union was committed to the transformation and the good government and that it saw these allegations very seriously.
"After an extensive research process that saw 29 people interviewed and numerous reviewed papers in this subject, we are pleased that the independent investigation found that there was no basis for the accusations," said Zacks.
Zacks added that the transformation record of WP Rugby was a source of pride.
"We are anxious to get behind this issue so that we can continue focusing on overcoming all the transformation goals outlined in the Strategic Transformation Plan of Rugby SA," said Zacks.
According to the latest update of the Strategic Transformation Plan of Rugby SA, the career of WP Rugby in the last two years is placed at the forefront of transformation in South African rugby.
In the Super Rugby seasons of 2017 and 2018, the Stormers were more transformed than any other South African franchise, although the same can be said for the Western Province in the Currie Cup 2017 and 2018.
In addition to this, the Western team under 19 and less than 21 teams and all age group teams are also leading the way in their respective tournaments in terms of transformation. In the recent report of Rugby SA, it was discovered that WP Rugby exceeded the SARU transformation goals in all male and female competitions, senior and senior provincial and SANZAAR in 2017 and 2018.
WP Rugby also achieved goals of transformation outside the field, with a significant representation among trainers, team management, arbitrators, coaches, board members and administrative staff.
"Despite the favorable results of independent research in the field of Paul Treu and the pleasant results of the recent Transformation Report of Rugby SA, we can not rest on our laurels and will continue to work to proactively improve the transformation within the union, as we seek guarantee Rugby is a sport for everyone, "added Zacks.
