A surprising spectacle and a musical adventure to experience. / Repro Pictures DR
For the nineteen years the group has been filming, Hilight Tribe breaks the limits with their live Natural Trance that tracks trance music, licked the electronic effects and roots of world music. The combo of five musicians on the stage and a sound engineer started a tour in March 2018 that will end in India in December.
The tribe made a stopover in Agen, Florida, on November 17 at 9:00 p.m. and intends to use their communicative energy to create an osmosis with the public.
A natural, surprising trance, without the need for unlawful substances. A truly exceptional show and a musical adventure out of the ordinary.
Interview with Ludo, one of the founding fathers of the group, who lives in the north of Ibiza as two other members of the tribe. The combo also happens twice a year in Ibiza, including the famous hippie market of Las Dalias.
How to define your musical transmission?
It's dynamic "Natural Trance." It's sporty on the stage! We all played about twenty traditional instruments. String and percussion instruments from around the world such as djembes, didgeridoo, congas, sitar, dungchen … But with a drum, bass and guitar. In our songs we take old themes, West African tribes, but they can be Andalusian accents, influences of Shaivite India, Sioux, Indian culture … Each piece has a specific topic of culture that we explore, such as the drums of the Lakota Indians. And we join our compositions and arrangements, new technologies and electro sounds. Styles are mixed between current music and tribal music. Each song has its own universe. The idea is to restore emotion to the public.
Have you looked for all these lands to feed these cultures deeply?
We traveled, but some musicians also came to us. For each album as the last "Temple of Light" or for each title, we try to absorb the cultures, to learn the language.
Can you talk about a musical mix to define the mix of influences?
Let's say, at first we find world music (world music) embodied by Peter Gabriel and his Senegalese and Pakistani musicians. But the difference is that our producer of the time Jean-Marc Landau who supported us a lot, encouraged us to add electro effects, influences of the world, while infusing our own sounds. It was he who made us discover Ibiza. We must know that on the stage we play everything. There is no computer or sampler.
Does Trance have a connotation of planning and hypnosis?
There has always been that it is among the Celts through their bagpipes, the African trance led by voodoo drums and rituals. He spoke during the holidays paid. Then the hippies left San Francisco in 1968 for Europe. The psychedelic movement was created. In India, the festivities of Trance Goa are born. An effervescence after the Woodstock effect, then the children of the old hippies were thrown at the edge of the current techno and house, the "psytrance."
Our Natural Trance is inspired by the contemporary world and these older worlds. But we're still humble in comparison to musicians who are great names in world music. The instruments that symbolize the most revised culture are blended in Salvador de Bahia, Dakar or Mali.
Is it a sound and visual program?
Yes, the show is used by us musicians, but also the lighting technician, technicians are and lights. The whole binds to real dances, songs and performance light with a rhythmical sequence of the pieces. A real auditive and visual journey!
Did you shoot abroad?
Yes in Japan, Morocco, United States, Sweden, India, but also as part of this tour in Romania, Hungary and Israel. But especially in all of France and all its corners. We performed at various festivals. Although originally, everything starts from Brittany. We were known thanks to this region. Our distributor is Breton.
Several dates are full, what is the profile of your audience? Nostalgic May 1968, new ravers?
We attract many generations of all genres and styles. Our message is heard by freedoms, travelers, dreamers, those who live in an alternative way, to the "control freak" and from 15 to 25 years of age who know our words and still have few references from the 70s.
Do you have a new album in preparation or an idea of your color?
We're working on the songs, but we need to finish this tour before. We want to explore the world of East Africa from the Maasai.
