Since today, a new website is online for people who need mental attention. The site Choose in the care of mental health It should help patients and doctors to seek psychiatrists, psychologists and other therapists without a waiting list.
Choose in the care of mental health It provides information about waiting time per provider and by state, such as autism or depression. "With this website it is easier to find a provider that has a place," says Marjan ter Avest. He is the director of the patient organization MIND, who, along with the healthcare sector and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, took the initiative for the site.
Secretary of State Blokhuis expects shorter waiting lists in mental health care through the site. He says the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) will force GGZ providers to pass on the current waiting times.
More than half a year
According to the NZa and the Health and Youth Inspection, waiting lists for autism, traumatic treatments and personality disorders are too long. Patients usually have to wait months and sometimes even more than half a year before their treatment.
According to the MIND patient organization, family physicians often refer to the same psychiatrist or psychologist. "The sector is complex and doctors choose someone they know and trust," says director Ter Avest. Choose in the care of mental health Doctors should indicate to other district practitioners with a shorter waiting time or with no waiting time.
However, transparency is not the only solution according to the patient's organization. "The urgency remains as high as possible to reduce the long waiting times in certain regions to an acceptable level."
