The great disadvantage Trent Alexander-Arnold has Liverpool and the patience he deserves

Prior to his 20th anniversary, Trent Alexander-Arnold already surpassed some of the most important names in the history of Liverpool.

At the end of his teenage years, the young man obtained 54 appearances, which more than 10 Steven Gerrard had made for the Reds at the same age.

Jamie Carragher, the legendary defender who represented the club 737 times, had played only 15 times before turning 20 and the icon of the Reds previously inclined the western Derby Alexander-Arnold to eventually eclipse their appearance numbers, a total that sees it feels second in the list of all time of the club.

"Trent is going to be a Liverpool player for a long time," Carragher told ECHO earlier this year. "I honestly think that I could end up making more appearances for the club than I did."

Alexander-Arnold's remarkable excitement from the new star of the first hopeful team to the first team was well documented.

He made his debut in the Premier League in January 2017 and since then played in the Champions League final and is characterized by the semifinals of the World Cup in England.

Such a meteoric rise gained applause from almost every corner and Cardiff City defender Lee Peltier supported his companion Scouser for greatness then under the line.

The former defender of the Reds followed a similar professional career, which became the first team as the new defender of Rafa Benitez in 2007, and he knows how difficult it is to succeed in Anfield as an emerging local.

"People do not realize that he is only 19 years old and the games he played and the pressure he has undergone, and that he presented himself in every game," said Peltier in September. "This is something special and unique that you do not really do in many children.

"He has been in the World Cup now and has a lot of skill and potential. He has already taken that position as his own now. He is only new and will have his ups and downs, but made a fantastic start for his career in Liverpool.

"Obviously, whoever posted it made the right choice because it will be a great right back. It could be one of the best in the world, it does not matter in England if it continues to progress and doing what it is doing."

Alexander-Arnold received a hard test at Arsenal last week, as Liverpool won a 1-1 draw before a tough night with the rest of his teammates in the 2-0 defeat to the Belgrade Red Star.

It is easy to forget that Alexander-Arnold was playing Under-23 football for less than two years ago, and a dive in shape, as it might have been the case of late, should be with a sensation of sensible perspective from the fanbase of Liverpool.

Something is not right in Liverpool, but there is a change that can banish the recurring problem

Alexander-Arnold is probably the youngest and most exciting place to enter Liverpool's first team regularly as Gerrard did it 20 years ago.

This mantle presents its own disadvantages for a young player, as they rarely have the opportunity to endure a day out, particularly with a club with such high ambitions as Liverpool.

"What I would say about local players is that everyone likes to see them (come)," Carragher told Sky Sports "Monday Night Football last week.

"I think you get the benefit of the doubt before (of fans) and they stay with you if things do not go well but there is a time when it becomes difficult.

"And what he would say, start his career in one of the biggest clubs in the world and look at my position … let's say the best midfielder I played with Sami Hyypia – and now Virgil van Dijk, one of the best in the world – that was my position

"Sami Hyypia, when he arrived, was 26. Nobody saw him at age 18. He was in Holland or Scotland with Celtic. Maybe they were not ready for Liverpool at 18 or 19.

"If they had come to the queues in Liverpool, I'm not saying they were not good enough, but maybe at that moment they were not right for that and they followed.

"So when you reach a local club, the eyes of the whole world will see that it has its growth period, its mistakes, its good days and the bad ones and then it reaches 26 or 27 when it is in its place."

Alexander-Arnold had to grow rapidly under that brightness. Release it aside after a real first blow on the road is not for the player or his club.
