Microsoft has investigated the addition of banner ads to Windows 10 Mail and Calendar applications



Microsoft has incorporated announcements in some versions of its own products since it introduced Windows 8. Now, there is the possibility that Microsoft Mail and Calendar's built-in applications will be close to the advertising treatment.

According to a post and screen shot of AggiornamentiLumia.it, some Windows 10 Insider testers can see banners in Mail and Calendar applications. Lumia Aggiornamentos says that users other than Office 365 subscribers would be the ones who see the ads and the ads would be in the "Other" mailbox, not in the Focused input box (for those who made the inbox The snapshot is activated, unlike the haters of this function, like me).

Microsoft already inserts ads from Microsoft and third parties in Outlook.com for non-Office 365 subscribers (which I do not see because I use an ad blocker). Ads have also been published in Microsoft Games, News, Finance, Sports, Time and Travel applications. Microsoft is not the only company that does it. Google, Yahoo and other companies also include announcements in your email and other first-party applications.

It is unclear whether Microsoft has decided to include ads of banners in the Mail / Calendar application in a next version of Windows 10 or if the company is testing the concept and keeps the options open with it. Ask Microsoft to comment. There's no word back so far.

Update: In response to reports on Mail / Calendar ads, Microsoft's communications chief, Frank Shaw, tweeted this Advertising in the "feature" email was experimental and is disabled.

I have to admit that I did not really do it on banner ads for the most part wherever they are (unless they are really annoying), so if Microsoft includes ads in Mail, I do not think it matters to me much. But there are many others who are in arms about this practice, since they feel they have paid for Windows directly or indirectly as part of their PCs and, therefore, they should not have to see ads.
