The new rules for sexual assault increase protections for accused students

WASHINGTON – Students accused of sexual assault in the schools and colleges of the country will receive new due process protection in the proposed rules issued by the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Friday, although the defenders worry that the rules will make it difficult to denounce attacks.

The rules, which were expected for months, will rewrite the procedures that university campuses use to resolve allegations of sexual assault and harassment.
