How does it work
Researchers sequentially injected four layers of different substances into the vas deferens of male rats. The first layer consists of hydrogel, a substance that acts as a physical barrier to prevent sperm passing.
Then they injected a layer of gold nanoparticles, which are radiant by infrared light radiation on them. The ethylenediaminotraacetic acid (EDTA) was injected, which decomposed the gel and killed the sperm and sealed the duct with another layer of gold nanoparticles.
In this way, the sperm not only prevents to advance through the conduits, but they are eliminated by the EDTA. But the interesting thing is that if you want to reverse the contraceptive process, you just have to heat up with infrared and the gold nanoparticles will do their job, mixing it with the rest of the layer and allowing the sperm passage again.
