Jesse Lingard makes an appeal to Manchester United to maintain a strong record in the city

Jesse Lingard challenged his Manchester United teammates to extend their strong record at Etihad Stadium by overcoming City rivals in the Sunday derby clash.

Although the fortune of the city has increased even more in recent years, the United States has won seven of the last 15 past and have not lost on the east side of Manchester since November 2014.

That record was in danger last season when the city – needing a victory to confirm its status as champion – led 2-0 at noon, just for Paul Pogba to inspire a surprising change and a victory of United 3-2.

"The victory last season produced a feeling of madness and, fortunately, we can do it again," Lingard told MUTV.

"We did it well there and sometimes there are fine spots. We kept our mental state last season and we got the victory in the end. The way supporters supported us, down to 2-0, they stayed with us and they accompanied us throughout the game. game and that encouraged us ".

The United will arrive at the Etihad Stadium to overcome the leaders of the league and defend the champions by nine points after an uncertain beginning of the season that will put the manager Jose Mourinho under much pressure.

But they seem to rediscover their mojo in recent weeks, caused by a Newcastle victory on October 6 and have won their last three meetings.

Lingard returned to the start line for the United on Wednesday night when they completed another late turn – this time winning for Juventus 2-1 in the Champions League – recently receiving an injury in the groin.

"I think these great games are for what you play," he said. "The more pressure there is, the pressure is shot, the games in which you want to participate, like all others. The most important thing is to believe in ourselves that we can do it. I believe in this team."

Romelu Lukaku could miss the match with a thigh injury, perhaps offering an opportunity for Marcus Rashford, who scored the only goal in United 1-0 victory at Etihad in 2016.

Rashford only played the final eight minutes of the dramatic derby last season, but it is always a special day for the academy's product.

"The derby of the season season in the city was amazing," said Rashford. "I was at the base for this game and I was beginning to follow. We were so focused on not losing that game, the winner was the only option for us when we left in the second half.

"That feeling of being two goals behind was a horrible one and getting back that was incredible. We look forward to Sunday's game and we hope we can leave the stadium with the same feeling again."
